      1 identifying the starting sound in their names
      2. identifing the ending sounds.

  2. Activity based assessment like showing a picture and told them to tell a story, also given story based picture and fill in the blanks and told them to complete the story with suitable word or sentence, Showing Apple, Banana or birds and asking about numbers etc.

  3. Chain Reading to test the Reading skills, Oral questioning to assess the Listening and speaking skills, Word Building and name the picture (Naming and Action words) to assess the Writing Skills are some of the strategies that can be utilized as assessment practices with the children.

I would like to adopt Activity based , play way and informal strategies of assessment like reading cards and age appropriate story book for reading, observation, group and peer activities and conversation, puzzles, block building, pattern games, beads and string etc. Which help in assessing children without fear and stress.

At the same time, rubrics to be created for understanding the levels of the children and to proceed with correct strategies. Most importantly, the assessment should be recorded and it should be done without any announcement.

  41. Assessment should be done in such a way that the learners do not feel that they are being assessed and do the various activities in a stress free environment. Various language and math activities may be designed by the teacher to assess the learners informally like
    tell rhyming sounds, tell the initial sound / middle sound / final sound of words, blend the sounds into words and tell one sentence for their daily life with that word, match the letter to the sound uttered, show parts of the book, identify the patterns, make patterns wit objects given and many more such activities.

    * to provide some work
    * to give some project on the topic
    * take test
    * discuss on the topic
    * if possible organise role play on the topic
    * use mcq to test fast etc
