    To Create a Print Rich and Numeracy
    Rich Environment in the Classroom for creating opportunities in the classroom for children to interact with print in a meaningful, inviting and relevant manner to make children understand
    the purpose of print in everyday life is called 'print rich environment.
    We should design the classroom in the following ways:
    • Label objects around the class, for example, book racks, pencil
    stand, shoe rack, washbasin, etc.
    • Display numbers wherever possible.
    • Create a word wall with common words, rhyming words, and new
    vocabulary which is of interest to the children. Also create a number
    wall showing a clock, calendar, toy telephones/mobile phones, etc.
    • Arrange the classroom library or reading corner with a variety of
    books that children can browse through on their own or with their
    friends.
    • Keep a variety of stationary in the writing area, where children can
    draw, write and cut-and-paste.
    • Create math and manipulative area with blocks, puzzles, mazes,
    stacking toys, etc.
    • Have a corner where children’s drawings, scribbles and emergent
    writing can be displayed.
    • Display theme related labelled charts and posters, groups of letters,
    poems and rhymes that the children might be learning.

    stand, shoe rack, washbasin, etc. Corner can be developed where children’s drawings, scribbles and writing can be displayed. Classroom library or reading corner can be developed with a variety of books that children can browse through on their own when ever they have leisure time. Corridors
    walls of staircases too should have good thoughts or other educational matter displayed on them.

  22. Print rich environment is an environment in which children are exposed to books, indulge in daily reading, provide with writing materials. This helps children increasing their Vocabulary - the words one understands and uses in speaking and writing.
    To create print rich environment we as a teacher uses of flash cards, posters on the classroom wall, calendars and bulletin boards that display words and numbers etc.

    A lot of flash cards with pictrues along with books, birthday chart, things of their interest and books of their age can be kept in the classroom for this purpose.

  37. BY CREATING OPPORTUNITIES IN THE CLASSROOM FOR CHILDREN TO INTERACT WITH PRINT IN A MEANINGFUL, INVITING AND RELEVANT MANNER TO MAKE CHILDREN UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE OF PRINT IN EVERYDAY LIFE. DESIGN THE CLASSROOM IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:
    LABELLING OBJECTS AROUND THE CLASS, FOR EXAMPLE, BOOK RACKS, PENCIL STAND, SHOE RACK, WASHBASIN, ETC.
    DISPLAYING NUMBERS WHEREVER POSSIBLE.

    ARRANGING THE CLASSROOM LIBRARY OR READING CORNER WITH A VARIETY OF BOOKS THAT CHILDREN CAN BROWSE THROUGH ON THEIR OWN OR WITH THEIR FRIENDS.
    KEEPING A VARIETY OF STATIONARY IN THE WRITING AREA, WHERE CHILDREN CAN DRAW, WRITE AND CUT-AND-PASTE.
    CREATING MATH AND MANIPULATIVE AREA WITH BLOCKS, PUZZLES, MAZES, STACKING TOYS, ETC.
    HAVING A CORNER WHERE CHILDREN’S DRAWINGS, SCRIBBLES AND EMERGENT WRITING CAN BE DISPLAYED.
    DISPLAYING THEME RELATED LABELLED CHARTS AND POSTERS, GROUPS OF LETTERS/ AKSHARAS, POEMS AND RHYMES THAT THE CHILDREN MIGHT BE LEARNING IN THE CLASS.

  38. Print rich environment can be created in a classroom by labelling some of the objects in three languages Mother tongue, Hindi and English. For example I am located in Assam so I can write - a wall in English , दीवार in Hindi and দেৱাল in Assamese. Alphabets in three languages can be displayed in class.

  46. To create a 'Print Rich Area' in the classroom-
    i) most of the fixed objects and areas should be labelled at the eye level, so that every learner is able to view them. If possible use projected labels which they can touch and feel, to get an idea of the shape of the letters.
    ii) There should be age appropriate picture books, ,comics, coloured pamphlets, Children's magazines etc., which students will use and browse through whenever they feel like.
    iii) Any kind of written or drawing work done by the students should be displayed turn by turn, so that the learners feel appreciated and are motivated to write/draw on their own.
    iv) A checklist of items displayed may also be displayed in big letters and numbers, so that they may know the names of various items through repetition and also learn basic counting, arranging, sequencing etc.
    v) A progressive chart should be made where everyday one or two or more students will write down one word each that they have learnt on that particular day. Every student will be given a chance and this will help in memorizing and writing correctly.
